한번씩

You might know the word ‘한번’, but you might wonder ‘Why do they add ‘’ after ‘한번’?’

'' is a particle in Korean that indicates distribution or repetition of an action, item, or quantity. It can be translated into English as "each," "at a time," "per," or "once in a while," depending on the context.

이 사진을 한번씩 보세요. -> Thake a look at this picture once in a while

운동을 못 가도 한번씩은 꼭 가려고 해요. -> Even if I can’t go work out, I try to go at least occasionally

저는 하루에 두번씩 이를 닦아요 -> I brush my teeth twice a day

Adding emphasizes a sense of repetition. For example, 가끔씩 is another instance.

가끔 means "sometimes," but when you add as in 가끔씩,’ it doesn’t change the meaning significantly but adds a nuance of being somewhat more regular or repetitive.

가끔 운동해요 → I exercise sometimes

가끔씩 운동해요 → I exercise every now and then
